After going through a season marked, especially by the restrictions caused by the COVID19, the leisure and adapted sports service of Fundación Personas Valladolid-Asprona starts a new course. And it does so with novelties in its proposal of weekly activities with which it expects to increase the demand for participation. – “Last year we were around 60% compared to the data before the pandemic. For this season, we expect to reach 90% of registrations compared to last year’s normality, and especially with new registrations. Rebeca Sanz, head of the service, says with enthusiasm. In addition, this year there are two different activity brochures, one for leisure activities and another for the sports club. Although the star activity continues to be the “gangs” with the Saturday outings, “the one everyone wants to join because you enjoy meeting new people in a leisure environment in the city”.
One of the challenges the service has faced during the pandemic has been to readapt. Last season they had to move premises and adapt on several occasions to the change of schedules, capacity and activities. According to the person in charge, “we have learned that leisure for people is essential, because we have not stopped the activity at any time, due to the demand and need of people. Even in summer more than 60 people have been able to enjoy their vacations. A complicated but very successful challenge, ” he says proudly .
The leisure service of Fundación Personas Valladolid – ASPRONA offers a continuous program of free time activities to promote social inclusion and fun for people with intellectual disabilities. Its main objective is to offer the necessary resources and support to enjoy the right to individual and shared leisure on equal terms with the rest of the community. The registration period is from September 9 to 16.

THE IMPORTANCE OF VOLUNTEERING IN FOUNDATION PERSONAS
In order to carry out these programs and activities, the Leisure Service relies on the help of volunteers, young people over 18 years of age, who offer their time and share it with people with disabilities, while they discover extraordinary life experiences. And the fact is that in Rebeca’s words, being a volunteer at Fundación Personas Valladolid – Asprona is “an extraordinary adventure.” In this sense and to encourage more volunteers to join the project, she remarks that it is not only what you give, but also what you receive: “together we can contribute to transform society with values of respect, generosity, commitment, imagination and teamwork.” Volunteers are always guided and accompanied by professionals who guarantee planning, follow-up and good work. The volunteer’s action is a human action, a personal relationship, an approach to living beings, who have every right to receive an action, a social integration work well done. It is a person who deals with people and this natural work requires a specific preparation and training that is acquired through practice. “Those who try it tend to stay, since volunteer work is based on sharing: time, leisure, experiences,” concludes Rebeca.
