What is Leisure and Sport?

The People Foundation’s Inclusive Leisure and Sports Service is a specific resource to foster principles of normalisation and social inclusion, consisting of an ongoing programme of activities.

This service includes year-round activities: excursions, visits to museums, cinemas and concerts, participation in community events, trips, open days, to name but a few. Easy reading and adult education are also part of this Leisure and Sports Service.

Who for?

All the people being cared for by The People Foundation can take part in this activity programme. Non-members must pay a 100% increase on the fee.

Services

Holiday programme

Different shifts in the summer months and/or season with day trips to coastal and inland areas, with the support of carers and volunteers, whatever the level of support required by the person with intellectual disabilities. Voluntary participation until all shifts have been filled.

Adapted sport

It strives to offer people with intellectual disabilities different sport options that they can choose freely with the support they need to take part in as normal a way as possible.

It comprises two programmes: one is competition based, aimed at taking part in events and different types of competitions; and another withphysical-recreation activities or training sessions for working out and having fun.

Provincial, regional, national and international tournaments in collaboration with Plena Inclusion CyL and Special Olympics.

I love seeing how leisure improves the physical, mental and emotional well-being of the users. But, above all, I love seeing them involved in experiences that give them the opportunity to unleash their abilities. Working in the leisure service gives me the opportunity to interact with users and their families, volunteers and colleagues from other areas, which all goes towards my professional and personal development.
