CAVILAB Project

Construction and Validation of a Work-Life Quality Assessment Scale

What is CAVILAB?

CAVILAB aims to design and validate a specific scale to assess work-life quality, a tool that will objectively and reliably measure aspects such as satisfaction, well-being, and working conditions. This scale is aimed at both workers in Special Employment Centers and professionals in the social and disability fields, a sector in which there has been no instrument adapted to its particularities until now.

The project seeks to establish solid evaluation bases that, in the medium and long term, facilitate the consolidation of a reference model for the continuous improvement of work-life quality in the field of disability. All this with a comprehensive approach focused on the real needs of people.

The initiative is promoted by Fundación Personas and has the scientific support of INICO (University Institute for Integration in the Community, University of Salamanca). Thanks to this alliance, CAVILAB represents a significant advance in improving working conditions and promoting inclusion, through a rigorous evaluation based on validated empirical indicators.

Who is it aimed at?

The project is aimed at two main groups:

  • Workers with disabilities in Special Employment Centers.
  • Professionals and technical staff of social services (housing, residences, occupational centers, etc.).

The pilot phase will involve the participation of 264 people.

What is the aim?

  • To have an objective and validated tool that allows evaluating the quality of work life in social and inclusive employment environments.
  • To offer data that serve as a basis for improving working conditions, promoting well-being and inclusion.
  • To consolidate an evaluation model that can be applied in the future in social entities and EECs throughout Castilla y León and, potentially, in other territories.

What activities does it include?

The CAVILAB project is structured in different phases of work, which guarantee a rigorous and progressive development of the tool:

  1. Research and design phase
    • Review of the scientific literature and existing models.
    • Approval by the research ethics committee.
    • Initial proposal of dimensions and indicators of work-life quality.
  2. Instrument construction phase
    • Elaboration of two versions of the scale:
      • CAVILAB-PG, aimed at technical and professional staff of social services.
      • CAVILAB-PD, intended for workers with disabilities in Special Employment Centers.

    • Preliminary validation of the indicators through the participation of experts and focus groups.
  1. Piloting phase
    • Application of both versions in representative samples of Fundación Personas and its special employment centers.
    • Data collection and analysis of the psychometric properties of the scales (internal consistency, stability, and construct validity).

  1. Results and application phase
    • Obtaining the final versions of the scale.
    • Elaboration of practical manuals for application, correction, and interpretation.
    • Dissemination of the tool in the sector to promote its use and consolidate a reference model.

Institutional collaboration

CAVILAB is financed by the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Employment of the Junta de Castilla y León.
It has the scientific collaboration of INICO (University Institute for Integration in the Community, University of Salamanca), a benchmark in applied research in the field of disability and the support of Plena Inclusión Castilla y León.
